When I was 4 years old, my family moved to Texas where the air was warm and dry for my brother, Mark's, Cystic Fibrosis disease. It was in Texas that I first attended public school, therefore my speech has a distinct southern accent. |
In high school, I was a two-year member of the National Honor Society, and graduated with honors from WW Samuell H.S. in Dallas. My mother became a widow during my high school years, and money was tight for our family. During my senior year, I joined the VOE work program which allowed me to attend school half days and work in the afternoon and evening. We sold my horse for $300 and bought a 1947 Chevrolet, which served me well during high school and the first few years at college. |
