Buster, the Man
| After the military, I continued my education at Texas A&M at Commerce, and received a Master of Science Degree in Audio Visual Technology and Education. This was the foundation to my career as a professional trainer. |

My first training position was for the Dallas Police Academy. A few years later, I accepted a civilian training position with the Garland Police Academy. |
| My civilian training position in Garland evolved to cover all types of city-wide training and supervisory development. As a human resources manager, the training unit still reported to me. |

There is more to my life than my job. In honor of devoted service to the Garland Sports Hall of Fame and its goals, The Buster Leavell Award was created in 1991. This award was presented to me as the outgoing Founding Chairman of that organization in appreciation for my leadership during the formative years (1986 to 1991). |

| Some extra jobs are just too much fun to be classified as work. Hockey came to Dallas in 1967 when the Chicago Blackhawks moved their "farm team" here. I was a die-hard Hawks fan from 1978-1982. In 1992, when the Central Hockey League created the Dallas Freeze, I became an off-ice official for the Central Hockey League. In 1993, when the Minnesota North Stars moved their NHL franchise to Dallas, the National Hockey League hired me to officiate for the Dallas Stars' home games. I'm still enjoying the extra hours of hockey work. |
